Pastors's Message

Beliefs

For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.
Romans 3:28

This verse is the main belief in our Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod about how we are made acceptable to God. Behind this belief lie some other important facts of the faith.

1. We are sinners who are unacceptable to God because of our sins. We are born with an incurable disease called “original sin.” We cannot heal ourselves or free ourselves from the guilt that accompanies this spiritual disease. We do not, we cannot obey God’s 10 Commandments in perfect fashion. Therefore, we need the help of a Power greater than ourselves to regain God’s favor.

2. Jesus Christ is the chosen Savior of all people. God sends His Son into this world, born to be perfect for us in obedience to His heavenly Father. Jesus atones, pays for all our sins with His death on the cross.

3. He rises from the dead, showing that the Father has accepted Jesus’ death as payment for humanity’s sins, that He (Jesus) tells the truth about Himself, and that He is the predicted Savior.

4. We receive the benefit of Jesus’ forgiveness by trusting in His work as our Savior and believing all that Jesus teaches us in the Bible. We are saved by God’s gracious act of sending His Son Jesus to be our Savior.

5. We do our best to live a life obedient to God, not to gain heaven, but rather because we are already on the way to heaven. Heaven is open to us because Jesus has won forgiveness of our sins for us. Our good works, kind actions and words are done out of gratitude to God.

Yes, I know, this sounds like a Catechism lesson. IT IS! Every October 31 we recall that the Reformation of the Church began with Martin Luther nailing a paper with 95 statements about the Christian’s life on the door of the church in Wittenberg, Germany. Romans 3:28 still applies to us today. We still need to know about Christ’s atonement for our sins. We still need to be relieved of our guilt and shame over our sins and weaknesses. We still desire to be with Jesus in heaven.

Glad to be in Christ’s service,
