Pastors's Message

Build on the Rock

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27

We have learned the children’s song about these verses well:

The wise man built his house upon the rock.
The wise man built his house upon the rock.
The wise man built his house upon the rock
and the house on the rock stood firm.

The wind came up and the rain came down.
The wind came up and the rain came down.
The wind came up and the rain came down
and the house on the rock stood firm.

The foolish man built his house upon the sand.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
and the house on the sand fell flat.

The wind came up and the rain came down.
The wind came up and the rain came down.
The wind came up and the rain came down
and the house on the sand fell flat.

There’s only one problem with the song – it focuses on the houses. The real focus is the thought behind the standing or falling of each house: Everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice. Either we put Jesus’ word into practice or we don’t. It really is that simple. Either we live the faith or we don’t. Since we are born not practicing the faith, that option comes way too easy. Only by the work of the Holy Spirit do we receive and live the faith in Christ. But we also have God’s promise that He will continue to work in us until the day when Jesus returns: “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

So please live like a confident Christian. Put the faith into practice each day where you live, work, attend school and play. Our “house” will then stand firm, no matter what storms beat against us.
