Pastors's Message

Relief from all the Busyness

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

Do you ever feel like your life is dominated by your schedules? You have to be at work, at school, at this event or that event, do this chore or that one, stop at this store or another to buy whatever. Life begins to be a blur of coming and going, one event after another, so much busyness because of business. If you can’t keep up, you feel frustrated, disappointed, infuriated, uneasy all because of this scheduled busyness. You seek some relief, some rest, some way to feel peaceful in the midst of it all.

Jesus can empathize with our scheduled busyness that drives us almost insane. He too had a schedule to keep. He said, “The time is fulfilled,” and began His public ministry. In that first chapter of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is baptized, is tempted, begins His public ministry, calls His first disciples, begins His healing ministry, and starts to preach about the Gospel. He has experienced the crush of one event after another, the crush of so many people demanding His time and attention. He knows how you feel when you want some “down time,” some relief from all the busyness.

How does Jesus provide relief for us? He calls us to follow Him through each day that we live. He calls us to pray in quiet places, just as He prayed (Mark 1:35). He calls us to attend worship, just as He attended worship (Mark 1:21). Jesus calls us to come and listen to Him, just as the people did back then (Mark 1:45b). In each of these ways, we will find relief from the pressure of busyness. Have you had your time with Jesus today? Do you still need to get away from the stress? Come, spend some time with your Lord Jesus. He came to spend time with you.

Glad to be in Christ’s service,
